Full Job Description

SUMMARY/OBJECTIVE The Workers’ Compensation Specialist is a key person providing one of the unique Value-Added Services to Clients of Alper Services. The WC Specialist assists Clients in the management of their Workers’ comp claims by ensuring claims are being handled properly, providing Client advocacy and claim updates from claim inception through closure. ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS • Primary expert resource for Clients on all workers comp matters • Monitors Clients open workers’ comp claims over $15K incurred, and recommends the best solution to bring the claim to closure • Hosts regularly scheduled claim reviews for Clients, individually or in conjunction with adjusters • Updates the Client regularly on the status of open claims • Proactively educates Clients on ways to reduce or eliminate their claims • Works with the Client to set up a modified duty return to work program and assists them in locating resources for occupational health clinics, drug testing, flu shots, etc. • Works closely with adjusters, nurse case managers and Clients to examine reserve setting, appropriate medical treatment, need for IME, return to work and settlement • Primary contact with Alper’s Early Intervention triage nurses provided by an outside vendor • Presents on workers’ comp topics at seminars hosted throughout the year by Alper • Maintains a library of pertinent health care reference materials and remains current on health care through periodicals, journals and attending professional organization meetings and seminars COMPENTENCIES • Operational Skills • Delivering Results • Energy & Drive • Personal & Interpersonal Relationship Skills QUALIFICATIONS • Education: College Degree required • Certificates: ARM, CIC, or CPCU preferred • A minimum of five years of work experience and strong knowledge of Workers’ comp laws (Illinois, Indiana, Michigan preferred), and claims procedures • Detail oriented with excellent organizational skills • Continuously seeks to improve processes and deepen the relationship with the Client • Excellent analytical skills • Excellent written and verbal communication skills with the ability to communicate clearly by telephone • Ability to meet deadlines and manage multiple priorities simultaneously in a fast-paced environment and work effectively under shifting priorities and pressure • Delivers outstanding Client service, with focus on internal and external relationship building • Proficient computer skills in Microsoft Office, experience in working with AMS360 or comparable agency management system preferred
